Daily Reading the Word

Watch Pastor Jonathan's Video Devotionals

Rationale for a Daily Reading Plan

As Christians, we are called to follow our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. How can we follow God’s will or walk in his ways if we are not in His word? The discipline of reading Scripture is imperative. We’re called to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23. Part of denying ourselves is to recognize that our thoughts aren’t His thoughts and our ways aren’t His ways (Is. 55:8-9). Psalm 119 exhorts us about the transformational value of the Word (see also 2 Tim. 3:14-4:2; Heb. 4:12-13; 1 Pet. 1:22-2:3). Psalm 145 gives an ideal response to God, “Every day I will bless you.”

How to get the most out of this site

  1. Commit to reading your Bible daily. Do your best to keep to it everyday. If you miss a day, make time for it as soon as possible. Either catch up on your reading, or restart with the current day’s reading. If this is too much of a commitment, read a portion or even just the discussed verse.
  2. Subscribe to receive the blog by email (see right menu). This will be a reminder everyday of your commitment to stay in the Word.
  3. Read the devotions in the blog below and/or watch the devotions  on YouTube.
  4. Interact with the reading. Feel free to ask questions and make comments. I will respond as soon as I am able, but as a community we can also learn from each other.
  5. Feel free to explore the previous posts based on categories from the top menu: Biblical Books or Themes in the Bible.
  6. Please be courteous and kind to others. I want this to be an encouragement and help to all who desire to learn.

DAILY READING PLAN

We will be following the Bible Reading Plan below  that has an OT and NT reading for each day taking us through the Bible in one year. Feel free to read them in one sitting or separately, morning and evening.

My daily blog posts will consist of a comment on a verse, theme, or section of the daily reading. Because I am doing this everyday, I will keep posts brief (usually less than 300 words), yet always attempting a meaningful devotional on Scripture in context (within the specific section, book, and overall canon of Scripture). Feel free to leave comments or questions, which I will respond to as time allows.
